Hendrick Construction completes Carowinds coaster

Charlotte general contractor Hendrick Construction Inc. has completed work on what’s billed as the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster in the Southeast.

The NASCAR-themed ride, dubbed the Intimidator, is Carowinds’ newest roller coaster. The $23-million attraction is the largest single investment in the amusement park’s history. It has a 5,316-foot track with a 232-foot peak and multiple drops and twists. Cars will reach speeds of 75 mph.

Hendrick also built the park’s $4-million Carolina Cobra roller coaster that opened last year.

CPCC to host internationally acclaimed “Dances of India” April 24

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) will host its ninth annual Dances of India concert Saturday, April 24, at 4 pm at the Dale F. Halton Theater located on the Central Campus.

The dances are the creation of noted dancer and choreographer Dr. Maha Gingrich, assistant to the public information officer at CPCC. Gingrich, who danced professionally in her native India, has been teaching dance in Charlotte since 1986. More than 40 performers will perform a series of distinct dance styles performed to live music designed to promote unity and to celebrate the diversity of festivals held throughout India.

Tickets are $5 for school-age children and $10 for adults, and can be purchased online at ww.tix.cpcc.edu. Free parking is available in the faculty/staff parking deck on Fourth Street.
