From The President
By Dave Bryon
One of the primary benefits of membership in ISES is the emphasis on education and programming. This November 13-15, we have a tremendous opportunity here in North Carolina to take advantage of a host of programs, seminars, and networking roundtables benefitting those in the special events industry.
It’s all made possible by attending the ISES Southeast Regional Conference (SE REC) in Raleigh. The Greater Triangle NC ISES Chapter will host the SE REC at their new downtown convention center and recently opened Raleigh City Center Marriot. They have arranged an all-star cast of event professionals with regional, national, and international scope who have been involved in planning everything from celebrity weddings to presidential inaugurations, to the Super Bowl.
David Merrell, an acclaimed event designer from Southern California, will discuss both the artistic and business side of design. He’ll also share how and where he finds design inspiration. You should come away with a lot of clever and cost effective design tips.
Lyn Graves, owner of Fresh Affairs, an award-winning wedding and event design and floral business in the Triangle area, has been tapped to provide an extraordinary flower presentation. It will unveil the basics that will motivate and inspire concepts that are guaranteed to take your event to the next level. Learn the difference between the art and creativity of a dedicated floral designer versus the traditional product from a retail florist.
Another interesting topic, moderated by Sally Webb, CSEP, managing director of The Special Event Company with offices in London and North Carolina, is centered on a number of experts sharing “War Stories.” We all seem to have our own tales to tell and hearing from a group of experienced panelists will no doubt be entertaining.
For those who want to learn more about the Certified Special Event Planner designation, there will be a number of CSEP workshops at the conference.
Of course, in addition to the great learning opportunities, there will be plenty of entertainment options available as well. For example, the Welcoming Reception is being held at the Museum of Natural Sciences and will feature North Carolina micro brews and wines to accompany a selection of regional cuisine.
