The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the only museum dedicated to the exhibition of mid-20th-century modern art in the southeastern United States, celebrated its grand opening on January 2. As part of the celebration, admission was free on opening day. Above is a photo from the Bechtler’s ribbon cutting ceremony. The Charlotte area saw the opening of several new hotels last year, but can we fill them?

In the past year in the Charlotte area, roughly ten new hotels either opened their doors or began construction. And at least two others plan to start building this year. You’d think we aren’t in the midst of a recession. But for this particular business within the hospitality industry, decisions on development are made on such a long-term basis that they don’t necessarily reflect the current climate.
